Our mission: Friends of Multnomah County Shelter Animals is a non-profit that is committed to providing complementary support to the positive work performed by Multnomah County Animal Services. This work includes assuring animals’ safe haven, veterinary attention, compassionate care, reuniting lost pets to their families, and finding loving homes for homeless pets.
Among other projects, FMCSA provided adoption incentives before the idea was common; it supplied dog kennel enrichment items; and it funded larger, more humane cat cages. One of the original Board Members, Jan Cook, heroically advocated for cats at a time when more than half of all cats coming into the facility were being euthanized. When the shelter sought support for new programs to save animal’s lives, FMCSA often funded the pilot program. FMCSA has been supporting MCAS through good times and bad for more than 30 years, giving a governmental shelter added flexibility to try things they would otherwise be unable to try (or fund).
